Barack Obama's response to Charlottesville violence becomes most 'liked' tweet ever

Barack Obama’s response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virgina became the most-liked tweet in Twitter’s history Tuesday night with 2.8 million likes.

The tweet is an except from Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography, “Long Walk to Freedom,” which read: "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion ... People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love... For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

Mr. Obama’s tweet is also the fifth most retweeted ever.

Mr. Obama’s supporters are often grateful for his emotional responses to moments of national tragedy.
