Digicel wins latest round in legal war with LIME
Telecommunications giant, Digicel, has won a major victory in its ongoing telecoms war with LIME.
Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ingrid Mangatal, on Thursday dismissed an application by LIME for an interlocutory injunction barring Digicel from offering cheaper rates to its landline customers.
Digicel began offering landline services to its customers, more than a year ago.
However, LIME filed a lawsuit in October last year, accusing Digicel of abusing its dominant position.
LIME also accused Digicel of breaching the Fair Competition and Telecommunications Act.
Calls from Digicel's landline to mobile numbers is cheaper than calls from LIME's landline to Digicel's mobile numbers.
LIME claims the rates offered should be on par and that Digicel was in breach of the law.
Following the ruling, Digicel's attorney, Michael Hylton, said this is a victory for consumers, because it preserves their right to free competition and lower rates.
LIME is appealing the ruling.
