Fuel price reduction not being passed on fully to consumers?

JGRA President Leonard Green

Some petroleum marketing companies operating in Jamaica are being accused of not passing on this week's sharp reduction in fuel prices to consumers.

The claim is being made by the Jamaica Gasoline Retailers Association, (JGRA). It has however, declined to name the marketing companies.

JGRA President Leonard Greene says despite price cuts announced by the State-ownned refinery, Petrojam, motorists will not fully benefit.

He told RJR News that his organization had complained to the marketing companies about the practice, "and we are hoping that good sense will prevail and that they will revert the prices, but we are very disappointed in the marketing companies that are guilty of this," he said.

On Wednesday, Petrojam announced that it had cut the price of  gasoline by $3.01. It was the biggest decline in prices since August 11, 2011 and moved the cost of  the fuel to an eight-month low.
