JCC surprised at latest movement in value of Jamaican dollar

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) has expressed surprise at the latest movement in the value of the local currency.

On Wednesday, the exchange rate reached a new level, now costing an average $123.11 cents for the US currency.

"One would have thought that it would have sort of stabilized based on the utterances of the Central Bank Governor that our dollar is reasonably valued now so we wouldn't expect any runaway devaluation. We would expect the four to five per cent per annum in keeping with our inflation...." said JCC President, Warren McDonald.

The Canadian dollar is being sold for an average $97.34, while it's costing $178.56 cents for the pound sterling.
