Ultimatum for Govt to pay allowances expires
Senior officials of the country's main trade unions will Friday morning gather for a special meeting to discuss their next move following the expiration of an ultimatum served on the Government to pay outstanding allowances to public sector employees.
The meeting has been arranged by the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU).
The Confederation recently warned that workers were upset that the Government had not provided an explanation for the delay in the payment of laundry, taxi and subsistence allowances.
It said if the matter is not resolved by Friday, June 30, it would have no option but to take action to preserve the rights of public sector employees.
“The JCTU is meeting later this morning to have a fulsome discussion on the way forward. The ultimatum expires today and therefore we’ll have to examine it and determine our next move,” Danny Roberts, JCTU Vice President, told RJR News.
