Independence celebrations begin Friday
The week long National Independence Celebrations which are being organized by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, JCDC, kick off on Friday under theme, “I Believe in Jamaica”.
The celebration will kick off with the staging of the Jamaica Festival Song Competition at the Ranny William Centre on Friday night at 8.
On Saturday all roads lead to the three day Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show.
The show is being put on by the Jamaica Agriculture Society but is being endorsed by the JCDC.
The commission is also endorsing this year's staging of the Appleton Temptation Island parties, more popularly called ATI.
On Emancipation Day, there will be the Independence Thanksgiving Service, the August Fair and Culinary Show, all at the Ranny William Centre.
Later in the evening at eight, the World Reggae Dance Championship finals will also be held there.
August 4 will be the annual 'Mello Go Roun' concert.
The commission will culminate its independence activities with the Grand Independence Street Parade and Grand Gala at the National Stadium on Independence Day.
Numerous activities are also planned for all parishes with a major Western Jamaica Street Gala also planned for August 6.
