Sugar Minott is dead
Veteran singer, songwriter and producer Lincoln Barrington Minott better known as Sugar Minott is dead.
Minott who was ailing for sometime died on Saturday night at the University Hospital of the West Indies in St. Andrew.
Born in Kingston, Sugar Minott is considered a driving force in pioneering the creation of reggae music.
Sugar Minott is well known for recording numerous hit songs such as ‘Mr. DC’, ‘Vanity’, ‘Herbsman Hustling’, ‘Hang On Natty’, ‘Stop Fight Rasta’ and ‘Ready Or Not’.
And Culture Minister, Olivia Grange has paid tribute to Sugar Minott.
Ms Grange said “Sugar Minott was a talented singer, songwriter, musician, performer and producer who played an important role in popularising Jamaica’s music across the world.”
According to Ms Grange, Sugar Minott “followed in the footsteps of the pioneers of Reggae, producing great music and helping younger artistes to make their mark.”
