National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has announced that additional police resources will be deployed to communities in Westmoreland which are grappling with an upsurge in violence caused by feuds involving members of criminal gangs.
He made the disclosure in an interview with RJR News last night as the police searched for gunmen who yesterday killed four people in Masemure Meadows in the parish.
Investigators are probing reports that members of the Westmoreland-based Kings Valley Gang were behind the attack.
Seven members of the Kings Valley gang were charged last month by CTOC.
The gangsters, who are charged under the anti-gang legislation, are scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court today for a bail hearing.
The police have accused the Kings Valley gang of being involved in several murders, extortion and robberies in Westmoreland.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Western, Dr. Wykeham McNeill also called for increased and sustained police presence in the parish.
"It is something that has been going on repeatedly. We need continued intervention, to break the back of the problem here," he said.
