International artiste, Capleton, whose given name is Clifton Bailey, is now in police custody accused of rape.
He was taken into custody last night in the company of his attorney Christopher Townsend.
He was questioned by detectives from the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) at the Half Way Tree Police Station.
Townsend confirmed that his client has been charged with rape and attempted rape.
“I can also confirm that there is also a dual investigations because the young lady who made the report is also being investigated for extortion so that investigation is ongoing. We anticipate that she will also be in custody shortly. I am quite concerned because it certainly demonstrates that there is one side of the police force that is blind to what the other side is doing.”
He said that Capleton is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Townsend also leveled more criticism against the police for its handling of the case involving Capleton.
“And as it relates to CISOCA, we have presented documentation, all of the voicemails, all of the messages where my client was being extorted and all they had to say is “Oh well, just use that in your defence”. Nobody is interested in a fulsome investigation and that is where we need to go, where we investigate matters and investigate properly. Don’t just take statements and arrest our citizens, put them behind bars and try to destroy their careers. It is wrong,” Townsend said.
