Cop arrested with Uchence gang members pointed out in ID parade

The police corporal arrested last week in connection with gang activities was pointed out in an identification parade on Thursday.

This was disclosed by his attorney Peter Champagnie.

The corporal, who is attached to the St. Catherine police, is expected to face additional ID parades in connection with allegations of his involvement in murders, shootings, robberies and rapes in several parishes.

The corporal was said to be a member of the St. Catherine-based Uchence gang.

Twenty-seven members of the gang, including the leader, are in custody.

Assistant Commissioner Fitz Bailey, head of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) said members of  the gang are to face ID parades this week.

He said charges will be laid against them under the anti-gang legislation.

The Uchence gang has been linked to rapes, murders and robberies in several parishes, including Kingston, St. Catherine, St. Ann, Trelawny and Clarendon.

C-TOC is alleging that the gang has stolen more than $400 million worth of goods.
