The Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division (TCND) has intensified its crack down on persons smuggling drugs through Jamaica's airports.
Over the last week, more than 10 persons in possession of cocaine and marijuana, were nabbed at the island's two international airports,.
The police have ramped up measures, as drug traffickers seek to use the heavy holiday traffic to smuggle drugs out of the country.
Superintendent Calvin Small, head of the TCND, says in recent weeks, the police have seized a large amount of narcotics destined for overseas.
“This is going to be a continuation, these seizures are happening almost weekly. Certainly at the ports we have been seeing persons swallowing, persons concealing things on their person and in their luggage….” said Small .
And the Narcotics Police have launched an investigation into the death of popular actor, Cleve "Chu Chu" Warren, who died last Thursday in St. Ann while preparing to travel to the United States.
An autopsy performed on Wednesday revealed that he swallowed more than 50 cocaine filled pellets.
