Sixteen members of the Dexter Street gang, including four women, were remanded when they appeared in the Home Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.
Another detainee was released.
The men and women appeared before Chief Justice Brian Sykes.
During the hearing, prosecutors reported that a former member of the gang who was arrested has been assisting investigators to identify other members of the criminal network.
Prosecutors also reported that the person responsible for a shipment of guns last November has been identified as Jamal Jacobs.
A bail hearing for the 16 people is set for June 27.
The police revealed earlier on Wednesday that the shipment of 19 guns intercepted at Kingston Container Terminal last November was destined for the Dexter Street gang in Westmoreland.
More than 4,000 rounds of ammunition were among the items intercepted.
The gang's alleged leader and main financier, Shadane 'Gargon' Robinson, who had been charged and released on bail, absconded and has reportedly fled to the United States.
Overseas
The Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC) has revealed that other wanted members of the Westmoreland-based gang have fled the island.
The gang has been linked to several murders and shootings in Westmoreland.
At a media briefing on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, head of C-TOC, disclosed that alleged leader Gargon and at least two other members of the gang are overseas.
They are Juhane Barnes, otherwise called Speng Shell and Oshane Rankine, alias Shabba.
Asked whether C-TOC is in communication with international law enforcement to help find the three gang members, ACP Bailey said he would not comment specifically but the wanted men would be apprehended by "whatever means."
He added that the police will be relentless in their fight against criminal gangs.
