Early Childhood Commission to certify several basic schools

The Early Childhood Commission (ECC) is targetting one hundred basic schools for certification over the next 12 months.

ECC Chairperson, Trisha Williams-Singh, made the disclosure at  Friday's opening ceremony for the agency’s inaugural certification fair in St Andrew.

Earlier this year, the ECC certified 17 early childhood institutions, a first for the agency.

State Minister for Education, Floyd Green, says the Prime Minister, in a meeting with ECC members, emphasised that the agency and its stakeholders have to do more.

He says the Early Childhood Commission's impending undertaking is in keeping with the Government’s commitment to ensure that Jamaica’s more than 2500 early-childhood institutions are certified.

The certification fair is aimed at engaging early-childhood teachers, practitioners, and parents in interactive sessions about the requisite certification standards.
