Education Ministry again warns schools against corporal punishment

The Ministry of Education has re-issued a bulletin reminding schools that corporal punishment is not allowed and disciplinary action could be taken against personnel who continue the practice.

A release from the ministry said the bulletin was sent to schools on Monday in light of renewed concerns expressed in the media about corporal punishment in schools.

It said it is again directing that school boards, principals and school officials ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to comply with this directive.

It said school personnel who continue to use any form of physical punishment, which may result in injury or abuse of a student, run the risk of disciplinary action being taken against them.
