Fire at Retirement dump extinguished

The fire at the Retirement dump in St. James has been extinguished.
 
Audley Gordon, Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), says the response teams are now trying to eliminate the smoke.  
 
The fire, believed to be the work of arsonists, started on Saturday afternoon.
 
Residents and business owners in surrounding communities have been complaining about the effects of the smoke.
 
The St. James Municipal Corporation, which owns Retirement dump, says it will be discussing with the NSWMA measures to increase security at the disposal site.
