Former PNP councillor freed of gun related charges

Former People's National Party councillor, Fitzroy Wilson, was freed of gun related charges before the Gun Court on Wednesday.

Mr. Wilson, the former councillor for the Boscobel Division in St. Mary, was freed of charges of illegal possession of a firearm and assault at common law at the end of his trial before the High Court.

Prosecutors led evidence that in 2013, the councillor pulled his licensed firearm and threatened to shoot a man during a dispute at a car wash in Rio Nuevo in St. Mary.

He was charged in 2014 following an investigation by the St. Mary police.

However, at the trial Mr. Wilson's attorney, Oswest Senior Smith, challenged the allegations by the complainant.

In final submissions on Wednesday, Mr. Smith urged the trial judge to dismiss the case on the basis that the complainant gave conflicting testimony at the hearing.

The judge agreed and ordered Mr. Wilson's release.
