Glasspole Brown to be appointed ECJ Director

The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) has recommended that Glasspole Brown be appointed Director of Elections.

Mr. Brown has been acting in the position since April 16.

In a statement Wednesday morning, the ECJ said the recommendation follows a selection process which was open to internal and external applicants.

It quoted ECJ Chairman Dorothy Pine-McLarty as saying that she, along with the eight Commissioners, wholeheartedly recommends Mr. Brown's appointment as Director.

Mr. Brown was previously the Assistant Director of Elections in charge of Administration.

Former Director of Elections Orette Fisher resigned the position on March 13.

In his letter to employees, Mr. Fisher asserted that all was not well at the ECJ. He added that there was a growing level of political interference affecting the organisation.

The ECJ has denied these allegations.
