Gov't unable to manage Jamaica's financial affairs, says PNP

Dr. Peter Phillips

People's National Party President Dr. Peter Phillips has addressed concerns about the local foreign exchange market, saying the government is unable to manage Jamaica's financial affairs.

Despite the Bank of Jamaica Governor stating that the foreign exchange market is run by the private sector, Dr. Phillips said the movement in the exchange rate is another example of the government's inability to keep the country's economic affairs in order.

"When you look at what has happened with the dollar and the cost of living, even inna the last two day, the dollar that was at 132 jump like a electric current gone inna it...and the dollar gone to 137; and it a whine and whine like how Audley Shaw did a say dollar whine. But a who it a lick? A you! A you the people, when you go supermarket, because price go up when dollar down and the price dem never come back down," he told supporters in the Portland Eastern constituency on Thursday night.

The opposition party is on a five-day islandwide tour as it moves into election mode.
