Past students of Jamaica College have intensified efforts for the school to sever ties with Ruel Reid who was sacked from the Andrew Holness-led cabinet on Wednesday in the wake of corruption allegations involving the Education Ministry and some of its agencies.
At an emergency meeting of the Jamaica College Old Boys Association on Thursday, a resolution was unanimously passed for the school's Board of Governors to write to the Education Ministry indicating that Mr. Reid should proceed on leave immediately.
The resolution also calls for Acting Principal of Jamaica College Wayne Robinson to be appointed Principal as soon as possible.
Mr. Reid was principal of Jamaica College up to 2016 but was granted a two year secondment until 2018 to take up the position as a Government minister.
Last year, Mr. Reid was granted three years special leave of absence.
Following his dismissal as Education Minister, Jamaica College stated that contrary to claims in the public domain, Mr. Reid will not be returning as principal of the school.
Michael Bernard, Chairman of the Board of Jamaica College, told RJR News that he met with Mr. Reid on Wednesday but it was not about his return to the school.
