Mayor of Portmore - Geoge Lee is dead

George Lee, the Mayor of Portmore who had been ailing for the past few months  died early Sunday.

Mayor Lee’s death was confirmed by officials from the People’s National party.

Lee who died overseas, created history in 2003, as he was the first directly elected mayor in Jamaica. He served one term, and was defeated in 2007 by the opposition  Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Keith Hinds.   However he was again elected in 2012.
