Meeting called to settle row over JTA Presidential election

Lawyers representing the losing candidate in the recent Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) presidential election, Georgia Waugh Richards, are gearing up for a crucial meeting with attorneys for the teachers union.

Waugh-Richards is looking at whether she should seek legal remedies following her loss in the July 18 recount of  ballots by the Electoral Office of Jamaica. Norman Allen, Principal of  Four Paths Primary and Junior High, was declared the winner.

Seymour Stewart, attorney for Waugh Richards, says both parties have agreed to meet early this week. According to RJR News sources,  the legal team is hoping that the matter can be resolved out of  court.

Stewart says his client wants resolution before the presidential installation ceremony, slated for late next month.

“We can’t prejudge anything, are meeting with open minds on the matter, but rest assured that my client is very serious and conscious of what is said – that the installation is sometime in the near future,” Stewart told RJR News on Monday.
