More financial assistance is coming for the Jamaca's farmers who have been affected by the decline in rainfall.
Derrick Kellier, acting Agriculture Minister, in an update on the Ministry's drought mitigation programme, told RJR News on Tuesday that Cabinet had approved additional funds for farmers.
Mr. Kellier said the Ministry made the request, following the recent allocation of $33 million to assist with the trucking of water to farms islandwide. This was done, he said, "because the drought (has been) longer than we expected."
Accordingly, he said, "the Government has given approval for us to go ahead with another 50 million dollars during this quarter and a further assistance of 45 (million) in the first quarter of next year, making a total of some 95 million dollars additional funding."
