No case of Ebola in Jamaica - Information Minister

The Government of Jamaica has moved to dismiss rumours that the country has its first Ebola case.

The rumours started on Saturday, when a man of Nigerian descent visited the Mandeville Regional Hospital. The doctors at the facility said the man, who was vomiting, was suffering from food poisoning and was treated and sent home.

Information Minister Sandrea Falconer, who chairs the National Response Monitoring Committee for Ebola, decried the passing on of rumours, and said citizens must be guided by the official information released by the government.

She added that misinformation leads to unnecessary panic throughout the society
