One dead following fatal crash involving JUTC bus

Inspector Mark Watson of the Spanish Town Police Station

There was a fatal crash involving a JUTC bus along the Spanish Town Bypass in St. Catherine on Friday morning.

One person is dead and two others are being treated at hospital. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Inspector Mark Watson of the Spanish Town Police Station told RJR News that the incident occurred shortly before 4 o'clock.

According to Inspector Watson, a white Toyota Wish motorcar was travelling in an easterly direction along the Spanish Town Bypass, when it drifted into the path of the JUTC bus that was travelling in the opposite direction. The vehicles collided.

The driver of the Toyota Wish motorcar succumbed to his injuries, while his passenger is said to be in serious condition. The JUTC bus driver is also being treated at hospital.

While Inspector Watson believes that speeding played a role in the crash, he admitted, too, that the driver of the motorcar might have fallen asleep which caused the vehicle to drift.
