Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Bill is expected to be passed in Parliament by December this year.
The Bill is now before a Joint Select Committee.
Mr. Holness gave an update on Wednesday at the Ministry of Labour's awards banquet in Kingston.
The OSH Bill is intended to repeal the Factories Act which was introduced in 1943.
The law excludes vital sectors and groups such as financial institutions, shops and offices as well as the agricultural industry.
Mr. Holness says the Bill will set and improve standards for safety and security in the workplace for employees and employers.
