Prime Minister urges Hanover residents to work with security forces

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says there is a need for stronger cooperation between residents of  Hanover and the security forces to further reduce the murder tally in the parish.

There has been an eleven per cent decline in homicides in Hanover since the start of  the year and the Prime Minister says while the reduction is encouraging, there is still cause for concern.

He asserted that the behavior of  criminals in Hanover will ultimately impact negatively on its tourism prospects.

While appealing to the residents to work with the security forces, the Prime Minister stated that plans are afoot to develop tourism in Hanover which will result in employment for residents.

The Prime Minister was speaking on Thursday at the National Housing Trust groundbreaking ceremony in Industry Cove, Hanover.

On Wednesday, 45 year old Carolyn Graver and her 24 year old son Uton Cockett otherwise called "Bigga" were gunned down at their home in Binns Lane, Elgin Town, Lucea.

Investigators say  Cockett was the leader of  the One Link Criminal gang in Hanover and that an internal feud led to the attack.

He was out on bail on gun related charges.
