Rehabilitation work being done on Vernamfield runway

Mike Henry, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister

Mike Henry, Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, says rehabilitation work is underway on the runway at the Vernamfield aerodrome in South West Clarendon.

He said the project is being undertaken in stages.

"We're moving the pipes from the runway to be able to restore the 6,000th runway and then move forward with the development of the 14,000th runway as a future development. We'll be looking for bringing in place for maintenance, repair and overall. We're at the moment using some HOPE students to help us to do the final surveys of some areas. So Vernamfield is moving in the direction that's beginning to show the implementation of the programme," Mr. Henry in an update on the project.

The minister said several companies, including a drone company and an aerospace college, have expressed interest in relocating to Vernamfield when the development is completed.
