St. Thomas residents concerned about plan to build urban centre

Some residents of St. Thomas have expressed concern about plans to construct a new urban centre in Morant Bay.

Marsha Ford Bryan, spokesperson for the group ‘Team St. Thomas’, says while residents welcome the initiative, the proposed project is not included in the parish’s development plan.

She further said plans for the development are moving ahead without any consultation with residents.

Mrs. Ford Bryan made the comments while addressing a recent community meeting at the Anglican Church Hall in Morant Bay.

The Factories Corporation of Jamaica will spend $4.8 billion to convert the old Goodyear Factory in St. Thomas into an urban centre.
