TAJ surpasses collection target for first quarter

Preliminary figures indicate that Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) surpassed its collection target for the first quarter of  the 2018/19 fiscal year.
For the period April to June, the Revenue Authority collected $79.9 billion   which was a 9.2 per cent increase over the $73.2 billion   target.
A statement yesterday from TAJ said it is on track to exceed the $320 billion  collection target for the current fiscal year.
It said this resulted from focused compliance strategies which began during the last financial year.
These include closer monitoring of  arrears through the Revenue Administration Information System and GCT taxpayers now filing their returns online.
