Treasure Beach residents appeal for vector control measures

Following heavy rains over the weekend which caused flooding and damage to roads in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, residents are calling for an immediate plan to tackle the increase in the mosquito population.

They are appealing to the St. Elizabeth Health Department and the Municipal Corporation to pool resources to begin a major vector control programme in the area.

The St. Elizabeth Health Department says there are plans to carryout vector control activities in the areas where water has settled.

However, the Health Department is appealing to residents to play a more pro-active role in eradicating mosquito breeding sites in and around their homes.

Meanwhile, a team is touring the affected areas of Treasure Beach and its environs to carry out assessment and relief assistance.

The team comprises representatives from the Health Department, the St. Elizabeth Municipal Corporation, the Ministry of Social Security and the Parish Disaster Committee.
