Two, including a teenager, killed in Westmoreland

Two persons, including a teenager, were killed in Westmoreland late Sunday.

They have been identified as Demaro Gayle,12 of  Seaton Crescent and Junior Daley,21, of  Grange Hill in the parish.

The teenager was asleep at home about 11 o'clock when it was discovered that he was shot. He died at hospital.

In the other incident Daley and a friend were reportedly leaving an event when they were approached by gunmen who shot them several times. They were taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Demaro was a third-form student of  Belmont Academy in Westmoreland.

The Ministry of  Education has expressed regret at the loss of his  life, another young person, at the hands of  criminals. Education Minister Ronald Thwaites has called for the security forces to swiftly bring his killers to justice.

Rayon Simpson, Principal of the school, who visited Demaro's parents on Monday said he was a good student who will be sadly missed by the school community.

The principal said trauma counsellors from the Education Ministry’s Mandeville Regional Office were on standby to offer support to family members.
