Up to 70 gangs still operating in Jamaica - Chang

Dr. Horace Chang

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says despite the dismantling of 14 criminal gangs in Jamaica, it is estimated that up to 70 others continue to operate.

Dr. Chang says the police will redouble efforts to nab members of the gangs.

He said while several members of some gangs have been apprehended, there are still members of those gangs who are at large.

For instance, he noted that "some 30 members of the Clansman gang in Spanish Town along with their primary leaders" have been arrested, however, "there's still enough of them out there to keep shooting each other."

He was speaking on Saturday at an All Island Chambers of Commerce quarterly meeting in Clarendon.
