US admits to being incorrect with claim that Jamaica monitored private online activities

The US State Department has admitted that it was incorrect with the claim that the Jamaican Government monitored private online activities without appropriate legal authority.

A statement on Thursday from the US Embassy in Kingston said an inaccuracy was published in the Internet Freedom subsection of  the 2014 Jamaica Country Report on Human Rights Practices.

The U.S State Department said it has corrected the report. It said, as part of  the process to develop reports, the U.S government accommodates robust exchange between civil society, the media, and government leaders. It said it welcomes feedback on the report, with the objective of  maintaining the most authoritative, comprehensive and factual review of  the global state of  human rights.

When there are inaccuracies, the Department of  State said, it documents the errors online and issues corrections to ensure the integrity of  the reports.
