JTA President urges teachers to remain focused
Public sector teachers are returning to work Monday morning with no settlement in sight for their protracted wage dispute with the Government.
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) is awaiting a ruling from the Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT), which last month, conducted hearings into the row over the non-payment of $8 billion in retroactive salaries to its more than 20,000 members.
Despite this, Nadine Molloy, JTA President, is calling on teachers to remain focused in carrying out their duties.
“We wish them all the best for the 2010/11 academic year. We ended last year on a good note and I want to encourage them to ensure that their role in making this year an even better one is significant.
“We are working for them behind the scene as usual and we continue to do our very best on behalf of our teachers,” Ms Molloy said.
