Member of Dog Paw Gang killed
Sections of Kintryre in St. Andrew are tense following Thursday night's fatal shooting of a man said to be a member of the Dog Paw Gang.
The man, who has been identified as Andre Smellie, 32, of Bedward Gardens in Kingston was killed during an alleged shootout with the police on Tavern Drive shortly after 8 o'clock.
However, residents claim there was no confrontation.
They say Mr. Smellie, who was unarmed, was killed in cold blood by members of a police team.
According to the residents, he was walking on Tavern Drive when he was stopped and searched by the police.
Explosions were heard and Mr. Smellie’s" body was later seen lying on the road.
The hands of the police officers involved in the incident have been swabbed and their firearms taken for ballistic testing.
The Bureau of Special Investigations is probing the matter.
Meanwhile, Thursday night's incident took place as the police continued their search for Christopher Linton, the reputed leader of the Dog Paw Gang based in Kintyre.
Mr. Linton is on a list of major persons of interest being sought by detectives.
An appeal has been issued for him to surrender to the police.
