The new Fruitful Vale Primary opens without incident
It was a smooth opening for schools in Portland on Monday, and one new school was opened at Shrewsbury, the Fruitful Vale Primary, which was completed over the summer break.
Parents were on hand to see the opening of the school, as they shared in the school's devotional exercise.
Principal of the school, Winston McLeary, challenged parents to be involved in the schools life and obey the regulations.
He is, however, concerned about the four to five miles some students will travel to school with transportation not readily available in the area.
The new school was constructed at a costing of $164 million, with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank under the Primary Education Support Programme.
Checks with other schools in the parish showed they opened without problems.
