OCID smashes major cyber crime network
Members of the Organised Crime Division have smashed what is believed to be a major cyber crime network.
This follows last week's arrests of two men and the seizure of equipment used to duplicate the debit card of persons.
The cops say criminal elements are now using electronic devices to capture private information of debit cards of holders and stealing their money.
The two men are to face the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Wednesday.
They have been charged under sections 3, 6 and 8, of the Cyber Crime Act.
The Organised Crime Unit reported that sometime, last week, the men were seen acting in, what they believe was a suspicious manner, in a motor car in front of an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in Manchester.
The men and the vehicle were searched.
The police say electronic devices which are use to intercept transactions and to duplicate the Personal Identification Number and other personal information of customers using the ATM, were found inside the vehicle.
By capturing this information, a duplicate card is manufactured, which is then used to withdraw monies from customers' accounts, without their knowledge and permission.
