Policeman’s armoury robbery trial stalled

The corruption trial of Sergeant Russell Robinson, the man at the centre of the theft of a large quantity of guns and ammunition from the police armoury, was stalled on Monday.

The trial was adjourned due to the unavailability of his attorney.

The trial is now scheduled for October 4, before the Corporate Area Criminal Court.

Sergeant Russell is accused of trying to coerce members of a police team to release him after they raided premises on Munster Road, in the East Kingston Police Division, on February 4, and found him in possession of guns and ammunition, stolen from the armoury.

Eighteen guns and 11,000 rounds of ammunition were seized.

Last week, three other men implicated in the theft, were sentenced to a total of 130 years in prison.

Sergeant Robinson is to stand trial on the gun-related charge on September 13.
