St. James Police smash major car theft ring
The police in St. James busted a major car theft ring, in the volatile Retirement area of the parish, on Thursday morning, when they raided an area close to the city dump.
They recovered some seven motor vehicles, including minibuses, during the operation.
No arrests were made.
According to CCN liaison Officer for Western Jamaica Corporal Ryan Malcolm, the Granville police acted on a tip when they raided property in the Friendship area close to the Retirement Landfill.
They came upon several motor vehicles and vehicle parts deep in the bush.
Corporal Malcolm says they found four Toyota Hiace minibuses, a Toyota Probox car, a Corolla Station Wagon and a Corolla popularly known as Kingfish.
He added that a nearby wooden shack also stored parts from the scrapped vehicles such as seats and doors.
One of the seats was stained with a substance police suspect may be blood.
Corporal Malcolm adds that parts of the motor vehicle chassis numbers were cut out and the rest obliterated.
He is asking anyone who may have lost any vehicle similar to those described, to call the Granville police at 952-3337 or Montego Bay police Station at 684-9082 or 119.
