Grenada linked to shady South Korean company
It has emerged that representatives of a controversial South Korean company had approached the former Grenadian government to do business.
In May, Prime Minister Tilman Thomas signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the company to explore potential investments in tourism, agriculture and other sectors worth billions of dollars.
But now, the investment-starved government might be facing some embarrassment, as reports have surfaced that the company's representatives in Grenada have been arrested in China for fraud.
A former government minister says their offer at the time was too good to be true.
Former Finance Minister Anthony Bolston admits to the Keith Mitchell administration holding discussions with persons from a South Korean company but said they dismissed them when they thought that the promises made by the company were too good to be true.
“A delegation came from South Korea and they made some fantastic proposals to us. We had lunch with them…I can’t recall if they are the same people but I do recall doing business with them,” Mr. Bolston said.
Meanwhile the local contacts for Sewang One World continue to deny that their company CEO was arrested in Taiwan.
