New tropical storm forms in the Atlantic
A new tropical storm, Fiona, has formed in the Atlantic.
The storm, with maximum winds of 40 miles per hour, is projected to pass just north of the Leeward Islands by Wednesday and stay farther out in the Atlantic than Hurricane Earl.
Earl doused several islands in the north-east Caribbean over the past few days.
Hurricane Earl brought heavy rains and gusty winds which knocked down trees, snapped power lines and caused flooding in low lying areas in islands from Antigua to the Virgin Islands.
So far there are no reports of major damage.
Earl is now moving further away from Puerto Rico according to forecasters and is expected to cross the open Atlantic east of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Meanwhile, new storm Fiona is expected to skim the Leewards on Thursday possibly bringing more rain to already saturated ground.
