Alia Atkinson defeated by world record holder

Jamaican swimmer Alia Atkinson on Wednesday suffered her first loss in the 50 metre breaststroke on the FINA World Cup circuit this year, to world record holder Ruta Meilutyte.

Atkinson, 29.66 was out-touched by the Lithuanian who swam 29.36 on day two of the meet in Tokyo.

Atkinson had set a world leading one minute 02.66 in beating the world record holder over 100 metres on Tuesday in Tokyo.

The Jamaican ended the meet with a gold and two silver medals, following her runner-up finish to Katinka Hosszu in the 100 metre medley.

Atkinson swam 58.47 seconds behind the Hungarian who clocked 57.74.
