J’cans rest ahead of start of Youth Olympics
Jamaica’s 15-member team to the first staging of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore is settling in nicely at athletes’ village on Monday after close to two days of travelling.
After about 36 hours of travelling to Singapore, the Jamaican contingent which comprises two swimmers, one badminton player and 11 track and field athletes, are resting-up at the Nanyang Technological University Campus in the Asian country.
Carifta Games finalist Brian Forte will take part in the 50 metre and 100 metre freestyle while fellow swimmer Shericka Williams, who produced 24.42 seconds to win 200 metre gold at the 36th CAC Junior Championship in Dominica, will also dive into action in the swimming events starting August 15.
The preliminary round of the half lap event is set for August 19.
Meanwhile, David Riley, who helped to guide Wolmers' Boys School to their first Boys Championships title in 50 years, believes the nation's young athletes will deliver the good in Singapore.
Close to 5,000 athletes are participating at these inaugural Youth Olympics.
