Powell disappointed

The former world record holder, he picked up the injury three weeks ago and lost the battle to become fit in time for the race.

The 100 metres will now be a clash between the Bolt and Gay, with another Jamaican Mario Forsyhte also in the mix.

No exertion from Bolt

Whispers of a world record are being banded about ahead of Friday’s clash Bolt/Gay 100 metres clash.

However, Bolt, who was also injured earlier this year, says to avoid further injury, he will not be exerting himself too much.

“I can say maybe that’s why I got injured this season because I wasn’t really focused because my coach said this would be my off season, so I wasn’t stressing or excited that much this season but I have to make sure that next season I’m on top of things,” he said.

Other Jamaicans who will be in action on Friday are world and Olympic silver medalist Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams-Mills in the women's 400 metres, Isa Philips in the men's 400 metre hurdles, while Korene Hinds and Mardrea Hyman will compete in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase.
