Six get basketball scholarships
Sunshine Girl Christina Salmon is among six players who have gained basketball scholarships through the Jamaica Basketball Association's (JaBA's) Incubator Academy, which President Ajani Williams, hopes to expand with increased support next year.
The players will attend prep schools and junior colleges in the United States.
Players are enrolled in extra lessons, put to work in the gym, and given basketball lessons on weekends from Oberon Pitterson, Richard Pollack, JaBA Vice President and Williams who outlined the benefits of the programme.
“By the time they go (overseas), they’re not raw … they’re somewhat semi-polished, kind of like Samardo Samuels was when he left. It gives them a distinct advantage (as) they don’t have to sit on the bench for two years in division one, they can go in ready to play,” Williams.
