Combined Universities register Super League's first outright win

The Combined Universities and Colleges became the first team to register an outright victory in the JCA Super League Cricket competition when they defeated the Eastern Tigers by 106 runs on Sunday. Batting first, the students made 171 before dismissing the tigers for 97.

Batting a second time, the students piled up 210-7 thanks in large part to 74 from West Indies batsman Chadwick Walton and 61 from Paul Palmer Junior, setting the Tigers 284 for victory. Oshane Walters then took 7-56 and Odane Vassell 2-24 to dismiss the Tigers for 178. Odean Smith 35, Andre McCarthy 32 and Garth Garvey 24, got most runs for the Tigers. Vassell ended with figures of 8-53.


Over at Chedwin Park, Northern Panthers and Central Titans played out a draw with the Titans gaining first innings points. Having made 115 in their first innings, Northern Panthers were bowled out for 267 in the second with Marlon Johnson top-scoring with 74 and John Campbell 52 against Odean Brown 4-62.

Earlier, the Titans had made 243-9 declared with Trevon Griffith top-scoring with 91 and Kennar Lewis getting 46 against 5-62 from Nicholas Gordon. Set 140 for victory, the Titans got to 18-1 when play was called off.

Meanwhile, at the Trelawny Stadium, the Western Warriors picked up first innings points over the Southern Seals in a low scoring affair. Batting first, the Western Warriors made 159 with Jermaine Harrison making 56 and Myron Wilson 42, before dismissing the Southern Seals for 129. Romaine Morris top-scored with 57 for the Seals against 4-27 from Dennis Bulli. Batting a second time the Warriors got to 118-5. 

Action continues this weekend with the Western Warriors taking on the Northern Panthers, the Combined Universities and Colleges facing the Central Titans and the Eastern Tigers battling the Southern Seals.
