Jamaica to face Barbados in Twenty20 semi-final
Jamaica will face Barbados in Friday’s second semi-final of the West Indies first ever Caribbean Cup Twenty20 tournament while Guyana will oppose Trinidad and Tobago in the first semi at four.
The semi-final pairings was confirmed on Thursday after the Zone B top of the table decider between Barbados and Guyana was washed out on Thursday.
Both teams shared the points to finish on nine points each, but Barbados, by virtue of a higher net run rate, topped the zone will play Jamaica after Guyana oppose Trinidad and Tobago.
The Jamaicans on Thursday night surrendered group honours in 49-run loss to Trinidad and Tobago.
Jamaica, needing 158 to win, crumbled for 108, the third lowest total in the tournament.
Opener Xavier Marshall top-scored with 25, Carlton Baugh contributed 17, while Marlon Samuels and Wavell Hinds made 16 each.
Chris Gayle, who underwent a scan on his groin, was kept out due to the field conditions.
Dwayne Bravo, Keiron Pollard and Sherwin Ganga took two wickets each.
Earlier Krishmar Santokie produced a competition's best 5-24 to restrict the Trinidadians to 157 for 7 of which Darren Bravo made 65.
Coach Junior Bennett says the batting display was simply horrible.
Looking ahead to Friday’s semi-final coach Bennett will be hoping for a turnaround in form, as well as a change in the weather, as it relates to Chris Gayle.
