Donaire 'axed' by Walters in round six

By Kayon Raynor

Jamaica's Nicholas "The Axeman" Walters scored a sixth round knock out to beat Nonito Donaire of the Phillipnes for the undisputed WBA featherweight crown on HBO in Carson, California on Saturday night.

After a tentative start, Walters stepped up the pace with some aggressive action to hurt Donaire.

The Phillipino actually survived a standing count, after Walters landed a powerful uppercut in round three. Blood started to flow from Donaire's right eye as the Jamaica "Axeman" turned up the pressure at the start of the fourth round.

Two rounds later, Walters, who is from Montego Bay, landed a chopping right hand which floored Donaire - a former four-division weight champion. Walter's 21st knockout victory came after 2 miniutes and 59 seconds in round six of his 25th fight to keep his unbeaten record intact.
