Good medal prospects for Jamaica today at Commonwealth Games

Jamaica will continue its medal hunt on the track at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Thursday, with exciting finishes expected in the 400 metre hurdles and the 200 metre for both men and women.

Kaliese Spencer enters the final of the women's 400 metre hurdles as the clear favourite. Twenty year-old Jenieve Russell will also be looking to make it to the podium from the same event.

Ansert Whyte will carry the nation's hopes in the final of the men's 400M hurdles as well.

200M

The final of the women’s 200M is set for 2.45pm (Jamaica time) and the men’s will take place at 3.10pm.

The first order of business for the 200 metre athletes, however, will be the semi-finals, which will determine whether they face the starter later in the day for the finals. In the women’s event, Anneisha  McLaughlin will run from lane 4 in semi final one, at 12:07 pm. Shillone Calvert runs from lane 5 in the second semi, the same as Samantha Henry Robinson, who will contest semi-final three.

In the men's equivalent, Jason Livermore is drawn in lane 5 of semi final one, Warren Weir, lane 6 of the second semi-final, while Rasheed Dwyer is in lane four of semi final 3.

800M

Natoya Goule will be looking to complete the difficult task of reaching the final of the women's 800 metres when she lines up in the second semi-final of that event.

Discus

Chad Wright and Jason Morgan will be looking to join Kimberly Williams and Odayne Richards in securing field events medals when they contest the final of the men's discus.

Jamaica was unable to add to its 12 medals on Wednesday, as long jumper Damar Forbes and heptathlete Salcia Slack fell short in their finals.
