IAAF World U20 team returns from Finland with 12 medals

Members of Jamaica's team to the World Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland, which amassed 12 medals to end second in the standings, arrived in two batches on Monday night at the Norman Manley International Airport. The Michael Dyke-coached squad ended with 4 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze to finish behind Kenya, which had 6 gold, 4 silver 1 one bronze.

The nations' gold medalists were Briana Williams, who completed the sprint double, Damion Thomas who won the 110m hurdles and Kai Chang, who threw a personal best 62.36 metres on Sunday’s sixth and final day. There were silver medals for Christopher Taylor in the 400m, Orlando Bennett and Britany Anderson in the sprint hurdles, Shian Salmon in the 400m hurdles and the boys sprint relay team of Zavier Naire, Christopher Taylor, Jeavaughn Matherson and Michael Stephens.

The bronze medallists were Chantz Sawyers in the 400m, Wayne Pinnock in the long jump and the girls mile relay quartet of Janielle Josephs, Stacey-Ann Williams, Salmon and Calisha Taylor.
